Help us support and empower those who most need it in the community
Dance Therapy NZ needs to raise over $300,000 each year to continue to support and empower so many New Zealanders who are at risk or with high needs. That is why your support and donations are so important to us.
- A donation of $10 enables us to buy a bottle of paint for our Arts 4 Us children
- A donation of $20 pays for a young adult to attend a Dance 4 Us session
- A donation of $50 pays for a set of scarves for our STARS teens
- A donation of $100 pays for a dance movement therapy consultation.

Leave a Gift in your Will
Arts therapy is a form of treatment that uses creative modalities, including art-making, drama, and movement to improve and enhance physical, mental and emotional well-being. All human beings are born with the capacity to respond and find joy in creative expression. It is out of this innate responsiveness to the arts that art and dance therapy were founded.Would you like to leave a bequest to help change the life of a child or adult through dance or art?A bequest from you will make a huge and permanent difference in the life of a child, young adult or adult with high needs or facing major life challenges. And you can decide how you would like your gift to be used. Here are some of the ways your gift will support us and the people we work with
- support a child or teen with special needs to have weekly group dance therapy sessions for six months or longer.
- support an adult attend a dance therapy programme in the community.
- provide parent workshops to parents of children with special needs attending mainstream schools.
- support a group of high needs, at risk students to receive art therapy at school to prevent violence, bullying and suicide.
- registrations and costs for attendance at Arts Therapy or Dance Therapy conferences.
- cost of supervision for our therapy team.
- purchasing art materials or dance movement equipment.
- paying for room rental at one of our outreach dance or art therapy locations for six months.
or you can leave a gift for general purposes to help cover our operational costs. We need to raise $300,000 each year to keep DTNZ running as we receive no statutory funding to support the work we do.
If you would like to talk to someone about leaving a bequest, please contact our General Manager on 09 360 0889 or email francie@dancetherapy.co.nz
In preparing your Will, you should seek the assistance of a Trustee (such as the Public Trust or NZ Guardian Trust) or your family solicitor to ensure that your wishes are clearly and correctly recorded.
Become a volunteer
We have a team of volunteers who assist in a variety of ways. We are always grateful for any administration and accounts/marketing support and also welcome programme volunteers into many of our therapy groups.
We welcome applications from Administration volunteers who have an excellent grasp of English and computer skills. We ask for a commitment to work with us for at least 6 months and we provide training and support which can be helpful for those wishing to transition to paid work in the future, as well as those who are able to give their time to a worthy cause.
Programme volunteers need to make a firm commitment to work with us for a minimum of two terms (6 months), and must go through an intake procedure.
If you are interested in volunteering, please email our Programmes Coordinator and:
- express your interest in volunteering as an Admin/Accounts/Marketing Assistant, or Arts/Dance Therapy Assistant
- attach your CV
- confirm that you would be available to volunteer for a minimum of six months (for the Admin/Accounts/Marketing Assistant role this would be twice a week from 9:30am to 6pm, and for the Arts/Dance Therapy Assistants it would be at least once a week for two hours)
- download, complete and attach section 2 of this police check
- attach copies of two forms of identification: one being your passport or birth certificate and the other being your drivers licence, 18 + card or student/employee ID card (we work with children and vulnerable populations and it is our policy to perform a police check on all potential staff and volunteers).
