Jan McConnell

Jan is a Dance Movement Therapist, Arts Therapist and Physiotherapist based in Tai Tokerau Northland New Zealand. She holds a Masters of Arts Therapy with a special interest in integrative dance therapy. Areas of specialty include community mental health, child development, disability and care of the elderly/dementia/palliative care. She is active in the development of dance movement therapy in Aotearoa. Her work centres around bicultural practice in collaboration with Kaupapa Māori (Māori theory, principals and practice) to provide relevant DMT models for the groups and populations she works with. She believes the voice of first nation peoples have much to offer the DMT community globally and that DMT can become a medium for embodied listening and cultural understanding.
